    Hi, I'm Ali.

I like figuring out how things work, fixing what doesn't, and building tools that make things easier.

If I have to do it twice, I'm probably automating it.

ALI.EXE is my personal website and an inspectable application.

Root cause: The sample token lacks devices.read. · Workaround: unavailable

    Reference customer reply

Your request is getting through, but the token isn't allowed to read devices. Could your admin add the devices.read scope back? Nothing else needs to change. Once that's done, I'll rerun the same request and let you know how it goes.

    Resolution, escalation and documentation

Apply an authorized configuration correction and validate the original operation.

Root cause: The sample task identity cannot write to its configured destination. · Workaround: unavailable

    Reference customer reply

The line that matters is the E_ACCESS error on the sync job. The heartbeat and the other job finishing don't tell us this one worked. The account the task runs as only has read access to the destination. Could an admin give it write access there, and nothing broader? Then I'll rerun it, check the output and update you.

Root cause: The sample device is enrolled but outside the policy target group. · Workaround: unavailable

    Reference customer reply

The device is online and enrolled, so that part is fine. It's just in a different group from the one the policy targets, which is why re-enrolling it won't help. Should this device be in that group? If so, an admin can fix the assignment. I'll check the next policy evaluation and let you know. If the group turns out to be right and the policy still doesn't arrive, I'll escalate it.

    Reference diagnosis — SAMPLE DATA

Compare the server spans with the total time the browser measured. One local request can't prove an ongoing bottleneck or an outage.

Root cause: unavailable · Workaround: unavailable

    Reference customer reply

I measured the request and looked at the server timings. That only describes this one run, so it can't tell us the root cause yet. For that I'd need repeated measurements, who's affected, and the exact steps that felt slow. I'd also compare warm and cold runs and different network conditions. I'll update you once I have that.

    Incident transcript

An integration fails after a permission change

    Sample incident

Impact: Sample integration cannot read device records. Scope: One simulated integration. Environment: Synthetic HTTP service

Stage 1 (sample sequence): Scope the failure

The report says the integration stopped after a configuration change.

    hypothesis
Permission mismatch rather than a broad outage.
    test
Inspect status and error before retrying.
    result
    403 insufficient_scope narrows the investigation.
    decision
    Check the token permission configuration.
    response
    SAMPLE DATA
    GET /sample/devices
    403 Forbidden
    {"error":"insufficient_scope","required":"devices.read"}
acknowledgement · customer · Stage 1 (sample sequence)

Thanks for flagging this. I can see the integration stopped after the change. I'll start with the failing request and who's affected. Please don't send token values, just the status code and the error with anything sensitive removed. I'll update you after I've checked the configuration.

Purpose: Acknowledge the problem and say when the next update is coming.

Stage 2 (sample sequence): Test the configuration

    Inspect configured and required permissions.

    hypothesis
The token no longer permits the requested operation.
    test
Compare configured scopes with the response requirement.
    result
    Only profile.read is configured.
    decision
Have an authorized admin restore only the permission that's needed, then test again.
    response
    SAMPLE DATA
    GET /sample/devices
    403 Forbidden
    {"error":"insufficient_scope","required":"devices.read"}
    token configuration
    SAMPLE DATA
    Configured token: scope=profile.read
    Required scope: devices.read

Escalation decision: A clear configuration mismatch like this doesn't need engineering yet. If it still fails with the right scope, escalate.. Evidence: response, token-config.

    status-update · internal-support · Stage 2 (sample sequence)

The request authenticates, but the token is missing devices.read. Right now it only has profile.read. We need an authorized admin to add devices.read back, and nothing broader than that.

Purpose: Explain evidence, next action and escalation conditions.

Stage 3 (sample sequence): Validate the recovery

Check the operation after an authorized configuration correction.

    hypothesis
Correct permission restores the read operation.
    test
Repeat the same request with the corrected token.
    result
The sample response is 200 OK.
    decision
Confirm the customer workflow and document the scope requirement.
    validation response
    SAMPLE DATA
    GET /sample/devices
    200 OK
    {"devices":[]}
resolution · customer · Stage 3 (sample sequence)

The same request works now that the scope is fixed. Can you check the integration is running normally on your side? The cause was the scope mismatch, so retrying on its own wouldn't have fixed it.

Purpose: Make clear the fix was the configuration, not a retry.

    Resolution

Sample integration is validated after the permission correction.

Root cause: Missing devices.read scope in the sample configuration.

    Lessons and documentation

    • Read the error before retrying.
    • Use the smallest necessary permission.
    • Validate the original operation.

    Audit launch content readiness

    Verified replay · recorded execution

New repository automation, written for this site and run locally under controlled conditions. It isn't work from my job, and it doesn't claim any real-world impact.

    Recorded at: 2026-10-03T05:19:48.507Z

    Verified script SHA-256: e98fe257493aec9bb09c0a4ca2ef7e69a79151b9998908cbdeaf46945181d240

    Exit code: 0

    Purpose

Replace a repetitive launch-content check with one read-only PowerShell audit.

    Before

Check each required field by hand, then count the cases, incidents, knowledge articles and recordings.

    After

The script reads one input file, checks the required fields and counts, and writes a structured log that never prints the evidence itself.

    Decisions

It flags a missing identity, contact or resume, and too little content. It never signs off on accuracy or privacy.

    Output & consequence

A list of structured events and a readiness result. In this recording it correctly reports that content is still missing.

    Validation

Recorded from a real, controlled run that exited with code 0. The script and input SHA-256 hashes have to match the recording, and every replayed line has to exist in the actual source.

    Failures

A missing path, invalid JSON or unexpected properties stop the script. It doesn't change any device, upload evidence or approve anything for publishing.

    Human intervention

A person still has to check where everything came from, that it's sanitized, that nothing confidential from my employer slipped in, that it's accurate, and that it's good enough. A complete inventory on its own doesn't mean it's ready to launch.

CONTROLLED DIAGNOSTIC SCENARIO · Investigate this application with a real degraded request and a baseline request. The degraded mode schedules a fixed bounded server wait; normal visitors and pages are unaffected. No historical outage is implied.

Procedure: scope one request → inspect response → inspect measured timing → mark a relevant span → form a server-processing hypothesis → inspect source → diagnose the controlled wait → request baseline → compare actual observations.

MEASURED means observed now; CONTROLLED means deliberately configured. SIMULATED describes hypothetical reasoning, not these responses. Missing observations are UNAVAILABLE. Values are retained only in this tab's memory and disappear on reload.

Diagnosis / procedure, not a historical outcome

The responsible source schedules a controlled server wait only for degraded mode. Timing of that span measures the actual operation. Baseline skips the scheduled wait. Browser differences can include network and scheduling noise; a server span cannot account for all browser latency.

Baseline comparison and validation: unavailable until both requests have been observed.
